Dynamics 365 Financials: Using MS Word for customer facing documents layout

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Financials – formerly known as Project Madeira – uses MS Word for defining the layout for customer facing documents like the Sales Quote, Order Confirmation, Sales Invoice, Credit Memo, Statement, and other of these types of documents.

The 3 big advantages of using Word for this purpose are:

  1. Each time your ERP system creates a Word file – for instance a sales quote – you can open that specific quote and make changes before sending it, if necessary for ad hoc purposes.

  2. The standard layout of the Word templates can be customized exactly to your company’s look and feel

  3. If needed you can define different layouts/templates for certain customers that have particular requirements

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Financials comes with a couple of different template-layout definitions for each of the areas MS Word templates are being used, allowing you to pick and chose which one you want to use.

In this video I will walk you through the steps for changing a Word template-layout and how to setup a certain customer with a specific layout.
