This is a question we often get, so we thought we’d clarify it for you.
Dynamics 365 Business Central (formerly D365 for Finance and Operations) is an ERP system by Microsoft, which was formerly known as Dynamics NAV or Navision. It is a very versatile system, with many add-ons (extensions) and much VAR support.
The strength of BC lies in its ability to be customized to fit your needs. Extensions are what make Business Central so flexible and powerful. They are also what allow upgrades to take place seamlessly.
Microsoft releases monthly Cumulative Updates that are applied automatically, and major updates, twice yearly that occur in October and April. These two major yearly updates can be scheduled within a certain timeframe (at present we can only specify the time of day in which they occur, but further functionality in this regard is expected). All Extensions get tested by MS for major upgrades and if any Apps fail then the APP publisher is notified. The App vendor is then given 90 days to fix the issue. If they don’t then the extensions will be disabled and the upgrade applied.
Additional information about current updates can be found here.
