Shinning a Light on NAV: Updating the SSL Certificate For Web Services

One of the challenges of dealing with Dynamics NAV web services and SSL Certificates is that they expire and therefore you must update your installation  with a new SSL Certificate periodically. Below is a step by step guide for Dynamics NAV to install a new SSL Certificate and registering the new Certificate with the appropriate Service Tier Ports.

Before you can update your SSL Certificate you must make sure that the new one is properly installed the simplest way to accomplish this is to open the Certificate MMC Console.

To begin you run the mmc.exe and go to File –> Add or Remove Snap-ins.  Choose Certificates –> Computer Account.

You will then navigate to the Personal Certificates Folder.  Right Click on Certificates and choose All Task And Import…  From there you will specify the SSL Certificate you want to import.

You should now see your installed Certificate make sure the Certificate has as private key that corresponds to this certificate.

If you SSL Certificate is missing the private key you can rebuild it using the following command.

certutil –repairstore my “‎01 b9 00 23 00 3b 00 12 00 17 00 01 00 02 07 df”

You will need to substitute the “‎01 b9 00 23 00 3b 00 12 00 17 00 01 00 02 07 df” value with the Serial number found for your certificate.

Now that you have verified that you have the SSL Certificate has been installed properly It time for some Command Prompt (Admin) Commands.

//Assigning CertHash to the IP Ports

netsh http add sslcert ipport=0.0.0.0:7047 certhash=6738991fc6d2934cb827fadc4817dab862e94d5e appid={00112233-4455-6677-8899-AABBCCDDEEFF} netsh http add sslcert ipport=0.0.0.0:7048 certhash=6738991fc6d2934cb827fadc4817dab862e94d5e appid={00112233-4455-6677-8899-AABBCCDDEEFF}
